The year is 2024, and the United States has just elected the first woman President, a Louisiana State University graduate, named Marie Boudreaux.
A few days after the election, the president-elect calls her father Richard Boudreaux and asks, “Dad, I’m assuming you and Mom will be coming to my inauguration?” “I don’t think so darling. It’s a 30-hour drive from New Iberia and your mother isn’t as young as she used to be, and my arthritis is acting up all the time.” “Don’t worry about it, Dad, I’ll send Air Force One to pick you up and take you home. I’ll provide a limousine that will pick you up at your door.”
Mr. Boudreaux said, “I don’t know honey. Everybody will be dressed so fancy. What would your mother wear?” “Oh Dad, replies the President-Elect, ‘Don’t you worry about that. I’ll make sure she has a beautiful gown, custom-made by Christian Dior, or any designer of her choosing.”
“Honey,” Mr. Boudreaux shoots back, “you know I can’t eat those rich foods you and your friends like to eat.” The President-to-be responds, “Don’t you worry about a thing, Dad. I will have the White House chef cook you gumbo, a seafood platter and bread pudding, your favorite. I’ll even make sure your meals are salt free Dad, I really want you to come.”
So Mr. Boudreaux reluctantly agrees and on January 20, 2025, Marie Boudreaux is being sworn in as President of the United States. On the front row sits President’ Boudreaux’s Mom and Dad. Mr. Boudreaux, recognizing the senator sitting next to him, leans over and whispers, “You see that woman over there with her hand on the Bible, becoming President of the United States.” The Senator whispers back, “Oh yes I sure do.”
Mr. Boudreaux leans back over and says proudly, “Her brother played football for LSU.”
