As an incoming high school freshman, Boudreaux decided to try out for the high school basketball team. When he informed Coach Thibodeau of his desire to try out for the team, Coach gave Boudreaux an equipment list and told him he would have to pay a $50 locker security fee. He was to report to tryouts on Friday with all of his equipment and the $50. Not having any money, he went to his grandfather for assistance. They looked at the list, and went shopping for the equipment, which included basketball shoes, white athletic socks, white gym shorts, a white T-Shirt and an athletic supporter.
Boudreaux reported to the locker room with his grandfather just before the tryouts started on Friday. Boudreaux gave the coach a $50 check for the locker security fee, made out by Boudreaux’s grandfather. Coach Thibodeau took the check, looked in Boudreaux’s gym bag to make sure Boudreaux had all of his equipment, and said, “Boudreaux, you forgot your athletic supporter.” Boudreaux said, “No coach, that’s him standing over in the corner. That’s my grandfather!”
